Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Group in the Research Computing Division at RTI International has an opening for a Junior Level Bioinformaticist to contribute to development of bioinformatics tools, including web-based tools, support and promote data interoperability, and analyze complex data sets. A fundamental understanding of biology, experience with programming languages and demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Residing in the Bioinformatics Group of the Research Computing Division, the Scientist will have access to colleagues with expertise in genetics, genomics, high performance computing and software engineering who mentor junior staff to extend their skill set. Most work is accomplished by interdisciplinary teams, promoting innovation and collaboration.

The location of this position is Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Responsibilities:

-Work with colleagues to develop tools and methods to enhance data interoperability

-Learn new software and/or programming languages as needed

-Contribute to interdisciplinary teams; be a team player

-Learn and apply techniques for genetic analyses

Required

Qualifications:

*BS or MS in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biology or related discipline and 2 years of experience

*Experience with most of the following:

-Web development languages and frameworks, e.g., PHP, HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, CSS, SilverStripe, Drupal

-Procedural or scripting languages, e.g. Python, Perl

-Object oriented languages, e.g. Java

-SQL or SPARQL

-Analysis of biological data

To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not now or in the future, require sponsorship for employment visa status.

Preferred:

-Ontology development and representation (OWL)

-Use and/or development of data analysis and/or data visualization tools, such as R

-Analysis of “omics” data, including sequence assembly and analysis Funciones laborales
