Job Description:
Duties:

The applicant will be expected to manage a large biologically based dataset, which will include processing the data using various existing software packages in a Linux environment and working with an established MySQL database. As new biological and analytical techniques become available, the applicant will be expected to extend the existing software to incorporate the new techniques. Additionally, the application will be expected to provide general support of the laboratory’s computing infrastructure including Mac OS systems, Windows systems, and printers, also providing Linux user support.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should have a B.S. or higher degree in bioinformatics, computer science, or other related fields, and 1-2 years or more working experience. The ideal candidate will possess a bioinformatics background with an interest in developing additional bioinformatics skills.

Working knowledge of Linux systems is required, including experience compiling and installing programs. The candidate is additionally required to have experience working with large datasets in a Linux environment both in terms of managing the data and writing programs and/or scripts to process the data. Experience with Python, Perl, Bash, R, MySQL, and PHP is preferred. The candidate should have experience in or demonstrate a strong desire to learn about genomics and handling of next-generation RNA sequencing and/or SNP genotyping data.
