Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Director at Sequenom will supervise and provide technical leadership to a multidisciplinary team of bioinformticians, algorithm developers and software engineers, and oversee the design, development, and implementation of innovative high performance clinical bioinformatics workflows. Responsibilities: ·Lead a team of bioinformatics scientists working alongside R&D scientists and laboratory professionals to develop novel molecular diagnostic tests and algorithms for processing molecular and genetic information ·Manage staff, including recruiting, hiring, motivating, training, development, and performance management. ·Work with LabCorp executive management to provide vision and guidance on future directions for bioinformatics ·Lead statistical and bioinformatic analyses of experimental data produced by next generation sequencing systems, real-time or quantitative PCR, and other molecular instrumentation. ·Provide scientific leadership and support of statistical analyses of experimental data produced by various molecular biology methods (focus on next generation sequencing) to produce quantitative algorithms ·Integrate and use public data sources to aid analysis of internally generated data. ·Direct development and support of a high performance data analysis pipelines ·Direct bioinformatics support for Sequenom Laboratories' commercially available molecular diagnostics. ·Work effectively across departments Requirements: PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or equivalent. · Minimum of 11 years relevant work experience with at least 2 years in a biotechnology setting · 3+ years of management experience · Experience in current methods of genomic bioinformatics, experience developing algorithms for analysis of biologic data highly desirable. · Proficiency in biological sequence data and statistical analysis · Proficiency in statistical computing and graphics using R (preferred) · Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++. Scripting expertise using shell or Perl. · Experience with development and deployment of robust and modular analytical pipelines for a production clinical lab · Knowledge of high-performance computing and cloud-computing technologies.
