Job Description:
Summary of Internship:

The Software Development Internship position provides an opportunity for science-minded students who are currently pursuing a computer science, computational biology, computational data sciences, or similar degree to get hands on experience working with bioinformatics and software engineers in a fast-paced software engineering environment. The software intern will contribute to development projects and advance best design practices. The position starts in June, paid working 40 hours per week through August. Opportunity exists for this position to continue through the academic year on a part-time basis to allow for class schedules.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop software application and analytical tools that will support the various scientific and business needs of the company.
  • Work as part of the project team in providing optimal software solutions within the given constraints such as time-line and budget.
  • Actively participate in design and peer reviews.
  • Ongoing collaboration and communication with other members of the team including project leaders, programmers, research scientists, research technologists, test/QA analysts, and documentation specialists.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiar with C#, C++, or other object-oriented programming language.
  • Aptitude for writing software programs
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
  • Strong willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
Qualifications:
  • Student currently enrolled in an accredited Masters or PhD degree program in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Computational Data Sciences, or comparable.
  • General biology or greater science knowledge preferred
