Job Description:
NuGEN Technologies is looking for a talented Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics and molecular/cellular biology and will provide company-wide expertise in the management and analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data.

The role requires a strong scientific background and the ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with multiple functional areas. JOB TITLE: BIOINFORMATICS SCIENTIST

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly provides or assists with the design and analysis of internal NGS data sets in collaboration with R&D, Tech Support and Marketing
  • Directly provides or assists with the design and analysis of data sets from collaborators and customers
  • Generates, optimizes and maintains scripts for routine NGS data processing
  • Executes and optimizes scripts for the production of custom targeted panel designs for both external and internal customers
  • Provides coaching and tutoring to colleagues on use of various data analysis tools (as needed)
  • Develops robust analysis pipelines for regular data processing
  • Develops reports for end-users to understand NGS data quantitatively
  • Constructs interfaces for lab users to submit samples for analysis
  • Supports product development, support, marketing and sales efforts as an extended team member

Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree or Ph. D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years experience producing or analyzing gene expression and/or genetic variation with NGS
  • Demonstrated application of open-source packages for NGS data
  • 5+ years writing Python or 10+ years with other languages and 2+ years with Python
  • 3+ years experience working in collaborative coding environments using version tracking
  • Demonstrated ability to present data in an interactive way
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical principles
  • Linux system administration skills preferred
  • Strong recommendations from past collaborators
  • Ability to manage & prioritize competing needs from multiple customers
