Job Description:
At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.

As a Bioinformatics Scientist, you will be part of the Computational Biology Group and will work closely with the Mammalian Synthetic Biology Program. You will build efficient and rigorous analysis and management platforms for large-scale biological data sets from next-generation sequencing based assays. You will be responsible for 1) building established and novel tools, metrics, and visualizations for data summary and interpretation, 2) integration and automation of these analyses into pipelines, and 3) dissemination of analyses to other scientists in the company by developing reporting frameworks.

Requirements

Required Skills:

• Strong programming skills in Python or Perl/Java/C++; shell scripting and R.

• Proficiency in working with revision control systems such as Git.

• Proficiency in working with databases and data management platforms (SQL/NoSQL).

• Familiarity with data science and visualization tool kits in R and Python (Pandas/NumPy).

• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Desirable Skills:

• Familiarity with common RNA-seq analysis tools (Tuxedo Suite, STAR, RSEM/Express, edgeR/DESeq2).

• Familiarity with R/Shiny, Jupyter frameworks.

• Background in mammalian gene regulation.

• Background in immunology or xenotransplantation is a plus.

Required Experience:

• Ph.D. or Masters with equivalent experience in Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline.

• At least three years of experience in bioinformatics software development and research.

• Experience using publicly available bioinformatics/genomics tools and algorithms; web resources such as NCBI, Ensembl, and UCSC.

• Experience in efficient pipeline development for large next-generation sequencing data sets.

• Experience in the design and statistical analysis of experimental data.

• Experience developing tools and workflows for reproducible research and analysis reporting.
