Bioinformatics Scientist : Berlin, Germany

Job Description:
Starting as soon as possible, we are seeking for one Bioinformatics Scientist high-throughput data analysis and statistical modelling in the field of Genome Integrity & RNA biology.

A Post-Doctoral position is available for a joint collaborative project between the laboratories of Dr. Michela Di Virgilio (DNA Repair and Maintenance of Genome Stability) and Dr. Altuna Akalin (Scientific Bioinformatics Platform) at the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin-Buch, Germany. The candidate will be responsible for data analysis and method development for genomics data sets including but not limited to high-throughput sequencing datasets. He/she will be interacting and collaborating with MDC/BIMSB research groups and external collaborators within defined national and international consortiums, as well as supporting research in Genome Integrity and DNA repair, and computational epigenomics within the platform. The candidate will be an active member of both research groups and report to both Dr. Akalin and Dr. Di Virgilio.

Requirements:

Applicants should have:

- PhD degree in computational genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or equivalent.

- Proven track record in bioinformatics, specifically in computational genomics. However, applicants who have strong background in statistics and programming (e.g. PhD in statistics with relevant publications) are also welcome to apply and will be given special consideration, even though they do not have much experience in bioinformatics.

- Excellent programming skills for data analysis preferably in R & in one of the scripting languages such as Python. In addition, experience in C/C++ would be beneficial and highly desirable. Statistics and machine learning course work and/or demonstrated application of those in previous research is also necessary. Experience and/or interest in database technologies (SQL and/or noSQL) and traditional high-performance computing clusters would be a plus.

- Fundamentals of molecular biology & fluency in spoken and written English.

The position is available until August 31st 2019 in the first instance, with a possibility for further extension. Remuneration is according to the German scale E13 TVöD /Bund/Ost.
