Job Description:
The selected candidate will be responsible for providing bioinformatics solutions to data analysis problems in genomics. Most work will involve analysis of next-generation sequencing data. The selected candidate will collaborate with research scientists in the Life Sciences Research Building (LSRB) and Health Sciences Campus to develop and implement cutting-edge data analysis pipelines for sequencing applications, such as: RNA-seq, methyl-seq, SHAPE-seq and DNA-seq. The selected candidate will also create and maintain necessary data analysis-related documentation. The incumbent may also plan, coordinate, and carry out activities with research projects. In addition, there will be opportunities to participate in the various educational activities offered by the University at Albany.

Duties and responsibilities:

-Analyze next-generation sequencing data.

-Collaborate with research scientists to develop and implement cutting-edge data analysis pipelines for sequencing applications such as: RNA-seq, methyl-seq, SHAPE-seq and DNA-seq.

-Create and maintain necessary data analysis-related documentation.

-Plan, coordinate, and carry out activities in collaboration with research projects.

-Participate in the various educational activities offered by the University at Albany.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Biology, Computational/Systems Biology, Computer Science, or a related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization, and two or more years of professional experience in Bioinformatics OR Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biology, Computational/Systems Biology, Computer Science, or a related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization, and one or more years of professional experience in Bioinformatics.

-Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

-Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master's degree in Bioinformatics or Computational/Systems Biology from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

-Two or more years of relevant experience in applications of next-generation sequencing, genome assembly, genome annotation, variant analysis, and phylogenetics.

-Proficiency in scripting languages (such as Python, Perl, etc) and R. Knowledge of command line Linux.

-Knowledge of general approaches to sample preparation for sequencing and applications of different sequencing strategies.
