Job Description:
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Informatics Institute is seeking outstanding candidates for faculty positions in the field of biomedical informatics. Rank and tenure status will be determined based on qualifcations and interests. The locus of faculty appointment will be in the appropriate Department in the School of Medicine or College of Arts and Sciences. Candidates must have an MD or other doctoral degree in a related field and relevant postdoctoral experience. This position involves substantial, long-range institutional research support. Preference will be given to candidates with signifcant records of research accomplishment, scholarship and recognition in the field of Biomedical Informatics, including bioinformatics, translational informatics, clinical research informatics, clinical informatics and population health informatics. The successful candidate will establish and maintain an independent funded research program that achieves national recognition for its contributions to the field. Advancement will also consider contributions to the educational and/or service missions of the Institute. Opportunities exist for collaboration with UAB’s Center for Genomic Medicine and the Personalized Medicine Institute, as well as academic and clinical departments across the University and UABs health system, comprising a rich and diverse “living laboratory” for informatics research and development. Opportunities for clinical practice, where appropriate, are available and encouraged.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or relevant doctoral degree in biomedical informatics, computer science or related fields; a track record of developing and maintaining a successful independent research program; demonstrated success in collaborating with clinical and/or basic scientists; a track record of published works in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals as first and/or senior author and presentations at national/international research forums; interest and ability to teach methods courses; and demonstrated competences for mentoring (e.g. graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, residents, clinical and or research staff). Physicians who will be involved in patient care must be board certified/board eligible in the pertinent discipline.
