Job Description:
Our client is looking for an experienced bioinformatics scientist / computational biologist to join a dynamic Translational Medicine bioinformatics group dedicated to the development of cancer therapeutics.

In this role you will * Proactively engage with a team of computational and bench biologists to gather requirements and to design and to specify modifications to the open-source cancer genomics cbioportal to enable Gene Set Enrichment Analysis

  • Interface with scientists from Client, academic instructions, and third party software developers to clarify and prioritize requirements as well as mock-up designs to satisfy those requirements * Document requirements and communicate the design in such a way that the software that is delivered will meet needs of computational and bench biologists
  • Suggest any computational, statistical, machine learning or modeling capability needed to achieve the goals above
  • Curate clinical and preclinical datasets (both syntactic and semantic) to populate the portal with content

Skills:

An ideal candidate will be collaborative, self-directed and possess:

  • Experience in software requirements gathering, documentation, design, and development
  • Deep hands-on experience in cancer genomics is required
  • Deep hands on-experience in Gene Set Enrichment Analysis is required * Deep hands on-experience in the open-source cbioportal application is preferred
  • Deep hands on-experience in data curation is required * Experience at integrating publicly or commercially available genetic, genomic, and interaction datasets is a plus * Statistical programming skills like, SAS/S-plus, R/bioconductor and pipeline pilot or equivalents are a plus

  • Developed communication and presentation skills and a successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional scientific teams
Education:

M.S. of PhD. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related fields with a minimum of 3-years research (academia or industry) developing software for bioinformatics applications and analysis of cancer genomics and genetics data.
