Job Description:
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the Biomedical Informatics Core area and all projects by transforming and strengthening informatics technologies to support research. Responsible for ensuring the developing of new informatics technologies including but not limited to software technologies, data storage technologies, and translational science technologies, the combination of basic science research and patient-centered clinical applications. Required:

  • Master’s degree required in computer science, biomedical, bioinformatics, or related field.
  • Must have a minimum five (5) years of full-time experience in integrating informatics technologies and electronic medical record (EMR).
Preferred: PhD Degree

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of project management life cycle.
  • Proficient in PHP, C#, SQL, CSS, JavaScript, JAVA, XML, R/SAS, Python, Object-oriented design, design pattern and HTML5, Web services.
  • Possesses working knowledge of Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other relational database, version control software, and continuous integration software.
  • Working knowledge or experience with Data Management System (e.g., REDCap, OpenClinica, etc.), Data Mart and Data Warehouse.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skill.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct day-to day supervision and management of all biomedical informatics research activities for research studies. Encourages collaboration and concept development between pediatric clinical research and translational science endeavors using informatics as a bridge builder.
  • Oversees project management duties of CFRI Biomedical Informatices Core department manage project/studies, tasks and goals of BMIC to support informatics services for research.
  • Work closely with the BMIC staff both technical and research specialist members on research project/study management tasks and address the needs of the researchers as these evolve and change.
  • Work with researchers, educate end users on the definition of biomedical informatics, assist users in understanding the functions and informatics services to enhance their research endeavors.
  • Contributes to the advancement of informatics functionality and knowledge as it relates to clinical and/or translational research both locally and nationally. Create new informatics concepts in the context of supporting collaborative research with pediatric investigators with of obtaining federal or other extramural funding for development of these concepts and their application to pediatric health issues.
  • Work closely with the LB medical informatics team, MLH IT team and UT-CBMI team to facilitate access to Cerner EMR to interface with REDCap, PRD and other platforms for clinical research projects. The emphasis will be on developing informatics researches to support the research needs of individual investigators as well as multidisciplinary research teams and programs.
Physical Requirements:
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
