Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Core Services (BiCS) Team is looking for an NGS Application Manager/Data Analyst. The NGS Application Manager / Data Analyst will have two primary roles – (a) Manage Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis tools and pipelines in a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Linux cluster environment, and (b) parameterize and survey commercial, open source or proprietary software to assess feasibility for various applications.

This role requires strong familiarity with the Linux environment, including extensive scripting (Shell, R, Java, Python) experience in writing programs, configuring software to its environment, as well as supporting pipelines. The post holder will play a key role in the development of data analytics applications supporting our cutting-edge antibody discovery and production pipeline. The ideal candidate needs to effectively communicate results with scientists, and be able to present in concise and easy-to-understand manner to collaborators and senior management.

Responsibilities:

• Work directly with scientists to provide bioinformatics support for antibody development platforms and for production cell line development

• Parameterize NGS software applications for a specific use case

• Writing software to support pipelines and workflows

• Install, maintain, and upgrade software applications and middleware

• Troubleshoot application issues

• Perform computational validation experiments to assess software feasibility

• Assist in the preparation of scientific presentations and report, and present at departmental meetings

Requirements:

This position requires a minimum of:

A MS in computational biology or life science with 4+ years in NGS bioinformatics or a BS in computational biology or life science with 6+ years in NGS bioinformatics. Experience with molecular biology and NGS library techniques and previous experience in an industrial setting are strongly preferred. Preference will be given to those with the following:

• Experience integrating omics, genetics and protein biochemistry data from different sources in different formats.

• Demonstrable analytical skills for efficient design of new applications, rapid prototyping experience, leading to development of production code that is robust, fast, and highly accurate.

• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and languages such as R, Perl, Python, Java, Ruby on Rails, MatLab, SQL, and web development tools.

• 2+ years of experience with Linux application development tools (autoconf, make, gcc, g77, cmake, etc)

• 3+ years of experience with NGS applications in an HPC environment

• Familiar with various code repositories (git, subversion, CVS)

• Experience with job schedulers/queue managers (SGE, PBS, LSF)

• Experience with large data sets and challenges associated with them

• Previous experience in industrial setting is desired, but not required

• Code debugging, profiling and optimization techniques

Additional preferred Skills:

• Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication of complex concepts to collaborators with wide range of expertise.

• Familiarity with database systems (oracle, MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB)

• Cloud deployment experience

• Experience with Cloud-based analytical tools and parallel processing

• Illumina sequencing experience

• Web server administration

• ITIL Foundation familiarity

• Advance troubleshooting and analytical skills

• Willingness to work in and adapt to a fast paced, changing environment

• Enthusiasm for new ideas, methods, skillsets, and viewpoints
