Job Description:
We are seeking to appoint a Bioinformatician at the level of Postdoctoral Research Associate, to work on informatics approaches to identify the molecular mechanisms of neurological disorders and development of new therapies.

You will be a highly active member of the Cader translational neuroscience team, based in at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM) with responsibility for the provision of research support for two newly funded projects. The WIMM has outstanding computational biology resources for the study of disease with several bioinformatics group and the CGAT team. You will be expected to provide support and guidance to research students where appropriate. You will also have opportunities to develop new methods for analysing and interpreting omics data.

Your duties will include managing your own research and administrative activities, contributing to project planning, including the generation of new research projects. You will determine appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses, follow and adapt when necessary experimental protocols as well as gather, analyse and present scientific data from a variety of sources.

You will be hard-working, ambitious and organised. You will hold or be working towards a PhD/DPhil in bio-informatics, computational biology, statistical genetics or applied computer science together with some relevant experience. Experience in working with transcriptomic data and/or bioinformatics, the ability to program (e.g. either R, python, matlab or other) in a unix/linux environment and skills in the application of statistical approaches to biological problems (e.g. statistical testing, linear models) is essential. Experience of working with disease relevant molecular data or transcriptional signatures of drugs and working in a research team and contributing to publications would be advantageous.

The post is full-time for a fixed-term of 3 year in the first instance.
