Job Description:
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to conduct experiments and carry out research projects to execute the research plan of the lab, in varied areas of chemistry, biology, physics, and other biomedical or related scientific fields. Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment. Records and evaluates data in accordance with methods requested, and performs all duties within the prescribed procedures for laboratory and institutional safety and administration.

The salary range is min $ 25,200 mid $ 31,500 max $ 37,800.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

1. Experimental Techniques:

* Experience with any of the following techniques is preferred: buffer or media preparation, bacterial culture, mammalian cell culture, recombinant DNA manipulation including PCR or cloning, DNA or protein purification, electrophoresis, fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry, virus packaging.

2. Computer Operation and Management:

* Requires basic personal computer skills for word processing, generation, storage and communication of the data.

3. Record Keeping and Communication Skills:

* Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

* Requires organizational skills to maintain accurate and complete records of pertinent data on a daily basis, and to maintain permanent logs.

4. Other duties:

* Must be able and willing to take responsibility to assume other duties as laboratory needs arise needed and as assigned upon discussion with the Research Lab Manager and PI.

EDUCATION: Required: Bachelors degree in one of the basic sciences.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: No experience.

Preferred: Lab experience is a must.
