Job Description:
A biologist with bioinformatics / computer programming experience or a computer scientist with bioinformatics / biology experience to join a large team working on highly visible web resources for malaria and related diseases ( EuPathDB.org ). The Application Developer will interface with scientists to acquire data (e.g. genomic, functional genomic, systems biology and clinical studies) and build¬ tools to load these data into a relational database, integrating these data with existing 'omics' data. The successful applicant will work collaboratively on a team of >30 biologists and software developers to translate requirements generated by clinical and scientific user communities into effective data representations and interfaces, enabling powerful data-mining capabil¬ities. Partici¬pation in the preparation of scientific papers and technical documentation and attendance at scientific meet¬ings is encouraged. The Application Developer will interface with scientists to acquire data (e.g. genomic, functional genomic, systems biology and clinical studies) and build tools to load these data into a relational database, integrating these data with existing 'omics' data. Participation in the preparation of scientific papers and technical documentation and attendance at scientific meet¬ings is encouraged. Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required: BS in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, biology or related field (Masters or PhD highly preferred for Sr level) and 2-3 yr (5-6 yr for Sr level) relevant work experience required. An active interest in and experience with bioinformatics and genomics applications is required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies required to successfully perform work: Experience with and working knowledge of UNIX, Perl, R, SQL and relational databases and XML are all highly desirable. An active interest in web programming is desirable, and experience a strong plus. Physical Demands: The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time (Height adjustable desks provided). Ability to travel for 3-4 days once a year.
