Job Description:
As a Senior Bioinformatician, you will be a key member of the team with the opportunity to develop and enhance new bioinformatics pipeline, which analyzes large data sets of microbiology samples and applies comparative genomics from next generation sequencing technologies to determine strain typing and microbial identification. This is an excellent bioinformatics opportunity to work in a cutting edge genomics group. Responsibilities: -Apply machine learning to develop classification algorithms for strain typing in NGS platform. -SNP analysis and mixture deconvolution -- apply best practice statistical/computational methods to analyze large-scale sequencing data to identify SNPs and identify pathogens of mixed origin. -Evaluate third-party tools and libraries we may wish to leverage in our pipeline. -Work closely with our science and product team to help define product enhancements, spec technical requirements, develop project plans and generate test cases. Desired Skills and Experience: -Ph.D. or comparable experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Computer Science. -Extensive experience in bioinformatics integration across multiple applied genomics markets such as food-borne pathogens, microbiology, agriculture, etc. -Strong experience in data analysis, pipeline development, and machine learning. -Proficiency with SQL and UNIX shells. -Proven development experience with one object-oriented language, ideally Python. -Strong communication skills both written and verbal with engineers and product marketers. -Ability to work independently in a fast paced and high performing environment. -Multiplex primer design using comparative genomics.
