Job Description:
Schneider is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our innovative and growing Engineering team. The Senior Data Scientist will lead analysis and interpretation of large data sets to develop data driven recommendations to solve business challenges in real time. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and analysis's to gather and make sense out of unstructured data using scientific methods and developing and testing models. This data is vital to the business in understanding and predicting customer behavior. The Senior Data Scientist will also assist in developing best practices, which will contribute to the analytical rigor of the department and will work with statistical methods to assist in developing processes that ensure quality, safety operational and financial performance.

The Senior Data Scientist will:

  • Work with large, complex data sets to solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems by applying advanced analytical methods. Conduct end-to-end analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations.
  • Process, cleanse and verify the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale. Develop comprehensive understanding of data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed to improve performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with a wide variety of associates and teams. Work closely with engineers to identify opportunities for, design, and assess improvements to products and services.
  • Make business recommendations with effective presentations of findings to multiple levels of stakeholders through visual displays of quantitative information.
  • Research and develop analysis, forecasting, and optimization methods to improve the quality of user facing products.
  • Improve accuracy and performance of existing models.
  • Design automation for rapid predictive model development.

Our preferred candidate will have:
  • MS degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, operations research, bioinformatics, economics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, industrial engineering); PhD degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience (e.g., as a statistician / computational biologist / bioinformatician / data scientist), including deep expertise and experience with statistical data analysis such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, sampling methods.
  • Applied experience with machine learning on large datasets.
  • Experience articulating business questions and using mathematical techniques to arrive at an answer using available data. Experience translating analysis results into business recommendations.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced skill with machine learning techniques and algorithms.
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, SPSS, SAS), data access/manipulation (e.g., SQL, pandas, dplyr) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase) required; experience with cloud computation (AWS, Azure) highly desired.
  • Experience with data visualization tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the uses and limitations of statistical methodologies as well as ability to select the appropriate methodology to complete assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and self-direction. Demonstrated willingness to both teach others and learn new techniques.
