Job Description:
As part of the Joint Clinical Genomics Initiative within Weill Cornell Medicine and New York Presbyterian Hospital (WCM-NYP), the candidate will play a pivotal role to establish, implement, test, update, and maintain a clinical Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) assays in compliance with New York State Department of Health requirements and CAP/CLIA requirements. The position is part of a larger team that includes different IT and computational biology groups and will provide services to the Clinical Genomics Laboratory.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gathers User and Functional requirements from relevant stakeholders and groups. Performs systems requirements analysis and documentation for new laboratory implementations and change requests to support needs of Production LIMS laboratories.
  • Develops requirements for software programs that implement automated methods and systems to track workflow and performance efficiencies.
  • Responsible for development, implementation, and testing of workflows for the Clinical Genomics Laboratory, in coordination with vendors, IT, and Computational Biology team.
  • Develops and presents implementation plans; reports out on progress. Manages user implementation reports, issues management and resolution process. Escalates issues as needed.
  • Defines plans for developing, implementing, testing and validating LIMS to confirm new features as part of site adoption process. Leads user acceptance testing and defines acceptance criteria for the Lab.
  • Evaluates and tests the system and sub-systems prior to delivery to the laboratory in support of final validation activities.
  • Develops end user materials (SOPs) related to LIMS System. Develops new training and learning materials, as needed, to assist in site adoption and to assist new lab employees.
  • Proposes user interfaces and coordinates technical solutions for new features or modifications to meet the lab’s requirements with IT and Computational Biology.
  • Provides expert technical knowledge of LIMS.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science/ Processing Engineering or equivalent. Masters Degree is highly desired.
  • A minimum of 5 years related experience with emphasis in systems requirements and development in a LIMS environment.
  • Experience with developing comprehensive requirements specifications for complex systems/applications with a track record of successfully leading analysis efforts for large and complex projects to solve significant technology-related problems.
  • Familiar with lab systems, integration techniques, and web services with understanding and exposure specifically to LIMS concepts, phases and deliverables.
  • Firm grasp of system/application architecture and concepts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to understand customer needs and manage expectations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with common CAP/CLIA New York State laboratory terminology, processes and procedures or familiarity with other regulatory/QA guidelines.
  • Strong technical acumen and familiarity with current NGS technologies and system architectures
