Job Description:
We are seeking a results-driven, creative senior research leader with excellent scientific credibility, strategic vision, and strong team building and management skills to lead our Genome Modification research group. This R&D leader will direct our technology development and deployment program for genome editing technologies.

-Highly technical and strategic thinker, shaping the vision and goals of the group. He or she will identify new research opportunities based on business needs and technical developments and then set the direction for our research program.

-Senior-level scientific manager, directly supervising numerous principal investigators. Includes setting project goals and technical strategies, interpreting data, and managing resources.

-Proactively lead implementation of new technologies or processes, taking into account business and technical tradeoffs.

-Develop a team of scientists and technicians, with respect to both technical and managerial attributes. Recruit, hire and evaluate performance of direct reports. Oversee and provide performance feedback. Coaches and mentors junior scientists and research associates.

-Work effectively across the organization at all levels and across functions in order to: direct research, hand-off developed technologies, and help shape applications for new technologies.

-Work closely and collaboratively with other research groups within the company to ensure smooth hand-off of developed technologies and excellence in moving technologies and research discoveries into production scale pipelines

-Serve on teams as appropriate to facilitate cross-project research initiatives.

-Engage and develop external connections through leaders and participation in external engagements to help shape use of new technologies.

-Author scientific publications and present at conferences for business purposes, personal career development, and to help build Pioneer/DuPont reputation.

-Candidate must be able to evaluate external technology providers and provide scientific evaluation and input for new alliances.

-Have the ability to manage high-level collaborations with partners and ensure each party’s contributions are met.

-Provide strategy and drive value from the organization intellectual property portfolio

-Ensure highest ethical behavior, and meeting organization all health, safety, environmental and quality standards.

Job Qualifications:

-Candidate must possess a Ph.D in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, or an appropriate life science discipline, with more than 10 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

-Strong technical background in molecular biology, plant transformation and double-strand break technologies.

-Broad understanding of plant sciences and ability to translate this knowledge into developing products, improving existing research programs and identifying new directions of research.

-Demonstrated major contributions and cutting edge impact on the science of genome editing, preferred in crop plants.

-Highly organized and detail-oriented with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while balancing and prioritizing business and team needs.

-Candidate must set high scientific standards and demonstrate a consistent track record of success leading scientists of diverse technical and cultural backgrounds.

-Demonstrated versatility as a scientist with high aptitude and ability to take on new technical assignments in a changing competitive research environment.

-Effective communication skills

-Strong presentation skills for both internal and external audiences and the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization across various functions as well as with individuals at partner companies.

-Strong track record of intellectual property filings. Ability to understand intellectual property, patenting objectives and work seamlessly with Intellectual Property group.
