Job Description:
Stanford University is seeking a staff scientist to provide support for the Department of Developmental Biology. The position will be a hybrid role and will encompass the below duties as they relate to grant writing support and computational research.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

-Develop and research ideas and grant proposals for written publication/communication on high visibility complex topics.

-Develop, compile and edit supplemental materials that support written communication.

-Manage a grant writing process that is complex in nature reaching across organizational levels.

-Maintain high-level interactions with specialized constituents to promote lab and departmental goals

-Define novel computational approaches and analytical tools as required by research goals.

-Propose new hypotheses and design experiments to test the hypotheses; develop new data models.

-Guide students, as needed; schedule and assign workload; set appropriate deadlines; review work for quality and timeliness.

-Collect and analyze information from peer-reviewed scientific journals and through direct submissions; abstract data into the required format, and verify them for accuracy.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

PhD in computational biology, or a related field, and academic grant writing experience desired.

Education And Experience (required):

Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant work experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

knowledge, skills and abilities (required):

-Ability to understand scientific literature, experimental procedures and their limitations, and current needs of the research community.

-Proven success in writing for publication in print, web, and other platforms.

-Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner.

-Ability to understand complex materials and synthesize across multiple sources to produce materials for diverse audiences.

-Ability to change voice and writing style to fit a particular audience and purpose.

-Outstanding interpersonal skills and able to interact effectively with a diverse array of people, including senior leaders.

-Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

-Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines.

-Excellent time management skills.

-Demonstrated ability to oversee all aspects of the writing process.

-Demonstrated advanced writing skills and the ability to synthesize materials from multiple sources.

-Extensive experience managing and coordinating complex writing projects.

-Expert level knowledge of job-required tools and applications.

-Strong analytical skills.

-Demonstrated experience with relational databases, data integration, and statistics.

-Strong written and oral English communication skills.

-Computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.

-Includes acting as a liaison between the PI and the Stanford Research Management Group.

Certifications and licenses: None.

Physical requirements:

-Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

-Frequently stand/walk, sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, and use a telephone, writing by hand.

-Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, and sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

-Visual and auditory acuity, including color vision required.
