Job Description:
Genentech seeks a talented and highly motivated Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to pursue a research program in collaboration with our Department of Immunology. This individual will direct a group of Bioinformatics Scientists engaged in similar research activities with the goal of developing therapies for Immunological diseases that we can effectively target to the appropriate patient population.

The group works closely across both the Research and the Development Sciences organizations to translate complex molecular data into useful therapeutics and biomarkers. A successful candidate will work with interdisciplinary teams including discovery, biomarker, clinical, biostatistics, and bioinformatics scientists, and will carry out data analysis and integration across various domains. Regular publication of scientific or methodological papers is an important component of this position. Success critically depends on an ability to effectively present complex techniques and results in a clear and concise manner to a diverse audience of scientists.

Who You Are:

The right candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • You have PhD in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology or similar, with a strong publication record. Alternately, a PhD in molecular biology combined with a very strong record of high-throughput data analysis, supported by extensive first- or corresponding-author publication in this area.
  • You have demonstrated experience directing scientists (e.g., PhD students, post-docs, scientists or other researchers in an industry setting) who each work independently on a diverse set of research projects. You also have demonstrated ability to direct the scientific and professional development of such scientists.
  • You have sophisticated understanding of relevant concepts in Immunology and Computational Biology.
  • You have extensive experience in the use of a high-level programming language such as R, MATLAB, Python or Perl for complex data analysis.
  • You are passionate about applying your skills in genomics analysis to utilize bioinformatics methods (e.g. from Bioconductor) to understand the biology of disease.
  • You have exceptionally strong communication, data presentation and visualization skills.
