Job Description:
Clinical Virology Bioinformatics needs an additional resource to support software development and data analysis activities for our data systems. These data systems provide batch data processing for clinical and non-clinical results, data reporting to regulatory agencies, and scientific analyses for research efforts and manuscripts. Our current FTE efforts within Clinical Virology Bioinformatics are stretched maximally and cannot fulfill this need without negatively impacting other departmental and business goals. Specific Responsibilities and skills for Position: The successful candidate for this position will support software development activities for Clinical Virology Data Systems and analysis of Viral Sequencing datasets. The candidate will work with Bioinformatics Scientists to develop and test data analysis pipelines and methods used for investigation of viral subpopulations and drug resistance in clinical samples. The individual will work closely with Research Scientists, Regulatory, and IT personnel to update functionality, test, and document the information systems. Required Knowledge, Experience and Skills: -Minimum of two years of experience using programming and scripting languages such as C++/C#/Java and Perl/Python. -Fluent in writing SQL queries for SQL/Oracle databases. -Basic knowledge of molecular biology and DNA sequencing technologies. -Experience with open-source bioinformatics tools / packages (GATK, Bioconductor, etc). -Experience with source code control systems and software testing techniques such as unit and integration testing. -Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to write technical documentation. Desired Knowledge, Experience, and Skills: -Experience with distributed computing tools (i.e. Hadoop, Hive, Spark, HBase, Airflow) -Knowledgeable in one or more analysis tools/statistical packages such as R, SAS, Matlab. Specific Education and Experience: -3+ years of experience with BS degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related field. -2+ years of experience with MS degree in a related discipline.
