Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för odontologi The Department of Dental Medicine in Huddinge focuses on the education of dentists and dental hygienists. In addition, we perform research, dental specialization training and provide patient care by specialist dentists. Karolinska Institutet and the rest of Scandinavia have been world leaders in dentistry for decades. Division Margaret Sällberg Chen’s research group, research theme - Infection, Inflammation and Immunology. Area of responsibilities/description of work This postdoctoral research position is immediately available in the research group of Dr. Margaret Sällberg Chen. The position is for a scientist with background in disease conditions associated with dysfunctional oral microbiota. The candidate will be part of a research team that aims at understanding new mechanistic insights of in patients suffering from diseases related to infection or microbiota dysfunction and microbial translocation. The work comprises monitoring of microbiome/metabolome dynamics to study interactions between oral microbiota and pathological reactions including cancer. Disease-specific markers will be investigated to develop diagnostic methods and individualized therapeutic strategies to improve human health. The post doctoral fellows to be recruited to the project will be part of a multidisciplinary team and are expected to take active part in collaborative efforts, in line with the overall aims of this project. The studies will require methodological skills - from handling of human biopsy/biofluid to RNA/DNA purification quality controls for sequencing and metabolomics analysis. The project is suitable for highly motivated researchers in molecular life sciences, especially those who have already knowledge of NGS bioinformatics workflow and resources. Postdoctoral studies (scholarship) in computational transcriptomics and epigenomics in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Description of project and work. This postdoc project is a collaborative project between Andreas Lennartsson’s research team at the department of Biosciences and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet and Sören Lehmann’s group at the Institution of Medical Sciences at Uppsala University. Andreas Lennartsson’s research group is interested in the epigenetic regulation of normal myelopoiesis and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (https://kiedit.ki.se/en/people/andlen). The aim is to identify key epigenetic factors that regulate enhancer activity and multi-potency in hematopoietic stem cells and dissect how they contribute to the development of leukemic stem cells. The group of Sören Lehmann is a translational research group focusing on AML spanning from basic science to clinical trials and both clinicians and basic researchers are active in the group. The focus is on epigenetic dysregulation in AML with an important aim to develop new treatment strategies based on epigenetic dysregulation. The Lehmann and Lennarssons’ groups are working very closely together creating an inspiring work environment containing complementary expertise. The epigenetic machinery is often perturbed in AML and contributes to leukomogenesis via different mechanisms. Increased knowledge about the aberrant epigenetic machinery will help us to better understand the mechanisms that give rise to AML. Our common research will potentially provide tools for novel therapies. This collaborative project offers you a unique possibility to analyze AML patient samples using novel state of the art methodologies. You will bridge the clinical and preclinical research at our institutes. Duties Bioinformatics is central in our research and you will work close together with other postdocs and PhD students in both groups. You will be involved in planning experiments, final analysis and visualization of the results. You will have the possibility to participate national and international collaborations. You will analyze data from multiple technology platforms that are obtained using techniques such as Chromatin Immune Precipitation (ChIP)-sequencing, RNA-seq/CAGE, ATAC-seq and Whole Genome Bisulphite sequencing. This position provides opportunity for growth and development as an independent investigator, as there will be possibilities for initiating new research directions.  [More]
