The Senior Associate is a member of a project team consisting of computational biologists and system administrators who takes responsibility for providing guidance, support, training and advice in computational biology systems to researchers. This individual will ensure that computational biology applications and services are current, appropriate and sufficient to serve researchers needs. The candidate will also be expected to effectively communicate with researchers to answer questions, troubleshoot problems and develop appropriate computational strategies while remaining abreast of current and emerging computational biology technologies and tools.

Qualified applicants must be detail-oriented, result-driven individuals who work well within team environments and have good interpersonal skills, as well as good client interaction skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Installing, configuring, managing, and updating applications to support the project
  • Consulting and collaborating with system administrators to determine best system configurations for applications
  • Designing and developing scripts, as well as, reasonable tests and example inputs for applications
  • Developing and maintaining installation, configuration and operations procedures
  • Providing user support to researchers assisting with answering questions, troubleshooting problems and developing appropriate computational strategies
  • Developing and maintaining detailed and accurate documentation
Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Legal Permanent Resident
  • Eligible for U.S. Government Clearance at the Public Trust Level
Experience Guidelines:
  • One to two years of experience in genomic and/or imaging analysis (e.g. microscopy, cryo-EM, MRI)
  • Knowledge and familiarity with either a broad spectrum of genomics applications and next-generation sequence data analysis, or image analysis/structural biology
  • Experience with biological databases
  • Understanding of bottlenecks associated with large-scale data analysis
  • Experience with shell scripting; ability to compile and build applications; ability to develop reasonable tests and example input for genomic applications
  • Strong experience in Linux
  • Working knowledge of R
  • Working knowledge of Matlab
  • Working knowledge of MySQL
  • Ability to program in at least one or two of the following languages: Python, C/C++, Java or Perl
  • Ability to learn about new technologies or software quickly
  • Desirable- having knowledge/experience with Deep Learning and Containers
  • Experience working in a HPC environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience presenting and/or teaching
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of the team
  • Excellent customer interface skills. Demonstrated ability to deal with customers in a challenging environment.
Education:

Master’s degree or higher in biological sciences
