Job Description:
To be appointed at a permanent basis at the earliest possible date.

The professorship should strengthen the cluster of excellence initiative PhenoRob (www.phenorob.de). It shall relate existing expertise in Big Data and Machine Learning in computer science and geodesy to Plant/Crop Modeling, Plant Phenotyping and Remote Sensing in the agricultural disciplines. The professorship shall strengthen the collaboration between the University of Bonn and the Forschungszentrum Jülich. The full-time professorship in Bonn may be complemented by an ‘inverse appointment’ at the Forschungszentrum Jülich.

The University of Bonn and the Forschungszentrum Jülich are jointly running field labs with mobile and stationary measurement platforms for an automated collection of spatio-temporally resolved crop, soil, and environmental data. The applicant must have a high international scientific reputation and shall develop new quantitative approaches to exploit these data.

The professorship represents the above-mentioned field in research and university-level teaching. This includes acquiring external funding for collaborative research projects and teaching within the curriculum
