Job Description:
Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:The Postdoctoral Fellow will leverage expertise in machine learning, bioinformatics, data integration and/or cancer immunology to work on projects that drive the CAR T cell therapeutics clinical program at the City of Hope.

This role is specifically designed to guide research efforts that aim to understand the genomic and immunological foundation for response and resistance in the context of our current and future CAR T cell therapy trials in indications including glioblastoma, prostate cancer, and breast to brain metastatic cancer.

Contributions:

  • Creating high throughput pipelines to process multiple clinical data types
  • Developing and/or applying learning algorithms for integrative data analysis
  • Analyzing multi view patient datasets to uncover response and resistance mechanisms
Reporting structure and Team:

The Data Scientist reports to the Director of Computational Immuno-Oncology and is a key member of the T Cell Therapeutics Laboratory at the City of Hope.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform relevant research in response and resistance to cancer immunotherapy, focused on CAR T
  • Develop data integration and informatics methods to analyze the 8+ patient derived clinical data types that include flow cytometry, IHC, whole exome sequencing, RNAseq, single cell sequencing and TCR sequencing
  • Develop methods to analyze and integrate publicly available data sets
  • Contribute to the scientific environment by presenting in both clinical meetings and T Cell Therapeutics Laboratory meetings, present at national conferences and make contributions to the broader computational biology community through publications

Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:

  • Completed a Ph.D. in applied math, statistics, bioinformatics, computer science, or machine learning, with a preferred emphasis on immunology, cancer biology or similar.
  • Strong theoretical and practical foundation in data science and experience with Python or R analytic packages
  • Desire to work in an interdisciplinary team of computational biologists, bioinformaticists, mathematicians, cancer immunologists and clinicians.
  • Ability to translate research ideas into practical implementations.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
