Job Description:
The Department of Jobs, Precincts & Regions (DJPR) was established on 1 Jan 2019 to ensure Victoria's strong economic performance by growing industries and regions. The role of the Cropping Systems Modeller is to design and implement methodologies that improve the analysis of large, geographically dispersed datasets of variable quality, primarily using agriculture-related computer-based models. This will also involve acquiring knowledge through field experimentation and possibly developing specialised software to incorporate data and research results into different modelling frameworks. Modelling within Agriculture Victoria Research (AVR) provides innovative solutions to problems in agricultural landscapes involving hydrology, production agriculture, animal production, soil erosion, nutrient loss, and many others. A major component of this work are genetic drivers of crop yield and quality.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate –
A degree in science or an equivalent science qualification in crop modelling, biology, agriculture, animal or plant science, computer science or bioinformatics;
Specialist knowledge and experience in crop biophysical and genetic modelling, and/or modelling applications across landscapes;
Strong experience of the application of data bases, with experience of routine genetic evaluations an advantage;
Knowledge of modelling biological systems, particularly in soil science, meteorology, agronomy, and related disciplines;
Ability to write computer programs and perform complex statistical analyses, preferably with experience of handling large datasets using computer platforms; and
