The Pfam and InterPro databases are world leading protein family annotation resources, which are run from within the Protein Families team, led by Rob Finn. There is an opportunity for an expert biocurator to join the team on a full/part time basis. The successful candidate will be expected to generate and annotate new Pfam database entries, as well as maintaining and updating existing entries, based on both user contributions and scientific literature. Future projects for the team include: scaling up gene annotation pipelines, improving our annotation of noncoding genes, automating and enhancing Ensembl’s RNA-seq annotation pipeline, and developing methods of analysing new data including full-length transcriptomic reads. The Bork group seeks a Computational Biologist for the analysis of large-scale microbiomics data (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics etc). Focus will be on biological discovery by data integration. Data will come from various microbiome projects (e.g. human gut or ocean) and should be digested to gain functional understanding.
