Job Description:
The IT Applications Specialist will work on all phases of laboratory and enterprise systems development life cycle. Responsibilities will include; working with scientists and other stakeholders to elicit user requirements and business processes, analyze requirements, troubleshoot and resolve issues, document and execute support procedures, administer applications and databases, create and deliver training material. This will be a versatile role with responsibilities including business analysis, business process improvements, system configuration, script development, reporting, and end-user training and support. The IT Applications Specialist will leverage enterprise software systems experience, and excellent interpersonal, communications, and team collaboration skills in delivering high quality solutions and service in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and responsiibilities:

-Partner with Product Owners to establish deployment objectives and success criteria and help them plan to achieve those objectives.

-Document success criteria in line with Product Owner’s business objectives and manage their expectations.

-Contribute to the development of and tracking against project plans around requirements, milestones, and targeted go-live date.

-Identify risks associated with the stated business goals as presented by Product Owners.

-Become an expert in all Laboratory Software Applications supported within Intrexon IT.

-Gather software requirements from end users and assist in writing user requirements documents.

-Administer, configure, and maintain software applications.

-Provide end-user support and training to scientists across the company.

-Coordinate user requests and ensure timely follow-up.

-Partner with division representatives to deliver full life cycle system implementations, including but not limited to the Scientific Data Management System, Electronic Laboratory Notebook, LIMS, EDMS, instrumentation and analysis applications, and business systems such as SharePoint and Project Manager.

-Collaborate with vendor resources, internal customers, and within the distributed IT team to deliver software system support that meets or exceeds customer expectations.

-Analyze and author new requirements and modify systems to adjust to changing business processes.

-Effectively communicate issue status, technical solutions, and recommendations to customers, management and colleagues.

-Develop and document system administration procedures (work instructions) and best practices.

Education And Experience:

-B.S. in Computer Sciences, Biology, or related discipline, with 3+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

-Experience administering, configuring, implementing, and supporting enterprise software systems such as laboratory LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System), SDMS (Scientific Data Management System), instrumentation software, ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook), and laboratory instrumentation systems and software.

-Excellent customer service and communication skills required.

-Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

-Experience with relational databases including one or more of the following Oracle, MS SQL Server.

-Familiarity with configuration management, scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript) and development operations activities.

-Experience with or exposure to Agilent OpenLab ECM and ELN, off-the-shelf Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), bioinformatics tools, and instrument systems software desired.

-Working knowledge of MS SharePoint administration and MS Project Manager.

-Exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills, working cross-functionally and across geographic locations.

-Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

-Working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.

Desired key competencies:

-Experience supporting and administering enterprise software systems in a distributed (multi-site) environment.

-Experience working in IT within the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or Life Sciences industry.

-Excellent troubleshooting / problem-solving skills in diverse technical areas.

-Ability to work creatively and efficiently handling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

-Excellent planning, organizational, and execution skills.

-Ability to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, customers, and management.

-Excellent analytical skills, able to exercise sound judgment on both technical and non-technical matters.

-Learn new systems and technologies quickly.

-Capable of high performance in independent work as well as in a team setting.
