Job Description:
UCL Genetics Institute is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to join Dr Aida Andres’ research group.

The post-holder will be an active member of a research project designed to investigate genetic adaptations in non-human primate species. They will be required to assist in the development of research proposals and the planning and delivery of the results, so that the research objectives of the project are met. The role holder will be expected to produce independent, original contributions to the subject area.

This post is funded for 12 months in the first instance and is available from January 2018.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in genetics, population genetics, bioinformatics or a related field. Proven knowledge of research techniques and methodologies as well as demonstrable comprehensive knowledge in the subject area are also essential.

Programming skills in R and Perl/Python are required as is extensive experience in population genetics, including the analysis of full genomes and the identification of signatures of natural selection (including recent positive selection and/or balancing selection). The post holder must be able to present complex information effectively to a range of audiences. Evidence of a publication record in good quality publications is also essential.

Experience in the study of selective pressures or environmental variables, as well as extensive experience in the analysis of genomes from diverse species, including non-human primates and preferably great apes, are considered desirable. Experience with computer simulations and the ability to design of modify existing methods are also desirable.

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,635 - £41,864 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
