Job Description:
The Centre for Computational Medicine (CCM) is currently developing several exciting projects in close collaboration with geneticists and clinicians. These include RareConnect (www.rareconnect.org), a patient facing portal for rare diseases, which aims to decrease the isolation felt by people with rare diseases globally while offering rich longitudinal data for research; and EpigenCentral, a web portal for the classification and diagnostics of childhood disorders using machine learning methods. The successful candidate will be working as part of the web-development team. Why join the CCM Development Team: Write software with real impact for people suffering from genetic disorders. Gain exposure to state-of-the-art data analysis techniques used in medical-genomics applications. Be part of an international collaborative R&D environment, interacting with multi-disciplinary teams. Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time (one year contract with a possibility of extension Responsibilities: Perfecting the way our users can interact with the data through improved user interface and visualization techniques. Integrating novel machine learning and automated data analysis methods as they are being developed and validated by our research collaborators. Interoperation with various project and code management tools in the biomedical ecosystem. Performance analysis and improvements, targeting scalability to very large patient databases. Extensive security to support sensitive patient data. Qualifications: Bachelors level education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent. Knowledge of software engineering concepts and methodologies (basic design patterns, version control, issue tracking, project life cycle tools etc). Knowledge of JavaScript/CSS/HTML and programming using React. Knowledge of databases and SQL. Excellent problem solving abilities. Excellent communication and organization skills. 2 – 3 years software engineering experience in combination with any of the following is preferred: Modern JavaScript libraries Node.js Feathers Docker Knowledge of biology/genetics is an asset, not required. Excellent problem solving abilities. Excellent communication and organization skills.
