Job Description:
The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto is looking for exceptional candidates to expand our national childhood cancer genomics program in Canada. To address the urgent need to improve treatment of relapsed childhood cancer, Precision Oncology For Young People (PROFYLE), which builds on the SickKids Cancer Sequencing (KiCS) initiative and other successful programs in Montreal and Vancouver, has developed the first national precision medicine platform. Multiple positions are available for Bioinformaticians, Advanced Data Analysts and/or Data Scientists.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Develop novel informatics methods for the analysis of thousands of sequenced cancer specimens, with an emphasis on whole genomes and transcriptomes
  • Design distributed analytical systems on high-performance computers, both locally and cloud-based
  • Implement new statistical models to understand the genetic basis of childhood cancer
  • Design rational approaches for interpretation and reporting of somatic mutations from a population-wide cohort; and
  • Incorporate genomics into routine clinical practice.
Here's What You'll Need:
  • PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant subject area (cancer genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, or similar)
  • Enthusiasm and desire to learn
  • Strong motivation to use genomics to find clinically-relevant mutations in childhood cancers
  • Experience with genome-wide data and next-generation sequencing analysis
  • Demonstrated programming abilities (C, Perl, Python etc.) and familiarity with Unix, and high-performance computing.
  • Familiarity with statistical genomics
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a team
