Bioinformatics Analyst

Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with molecular biologists and clinical geneticists to analyze results of next-generation sequencing-based experiments.
• Maintain, develop, and support Good Start Genetics’ next generation sequencing analysis pipeline and associated test codebase.
• Develop new strategies for analyzing and visualizing next generation DNA sequencing data.
• Maintain detailed documentation of software developed and analyses performed.
• Prepare reports for peer-reviewed publication and internal use.
• Work collaboratively as part of a small, interdisciplinary team of clinical geneticists, molecular biologists, computer scientists, and mathematicians / statisticians.

• BA, BS, or MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Biological Engineering, Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, Biology, or a related discipline.
• Strong command of statistics and probability, and their application to quantitative analyses.
• 2+ years programming experience with both compiled and interpreted (Python required) languages. Experience with other scripting and compiled languages a plus.
• Experience and comfort working in a Linux/Unix environment.
• Proven track record analyzing data for next-generation DNA sequencing and/or genomic analysis a strong plus.
• Demonstrated ability to glean novel/key features from large-scale data sets.
• Experience performing quantitative analyses on large genomic datasets.
• Experience with cloud computing is considered a plus.
• Understanding of molecular biology and human genetics / genomics highly desirable.
• Willingness to work in a start up environment. Proven teamwork and leadership skills. High creativity. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Industry or production next generation DNA sequencing experience (e.g., product development and commercialization) a plus, especially in the clinical diagnostics space.
