Job Description:
Genomatica is seeking a highly motivated and creative computational systems biologist to join the Systems Bioengineering Group. The primary objective of this group is to develop and advance key aspects of the company’s core technology platform including various systems biology applications from model-driven strain design to data-driven optimization of industrial bioprocesses for renewable chemical production. The successful candidate for this position will develop and implement computational modeling approaches for industrial metabolic engineering and bioprocess applications. She/he will also contribute to the development and application of computational data analytics platforms for systems biology workflows to obtain actionable insights out of process and multiple omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and proteomics). The candidate will interface with multidisciplinary teams and play a role in the development of infrastructure for the predictive analysis and visualization of multi-dimensional, process-relevant biological datasets. The successful candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in applying her/his technical knowledge and scientific creativity to develop innovative solutions in a team environment. Job Responsibilities:Develop and apply computational approaches for modeling of biological systems such as metabolic models to diverse metabolic engineering projects in a variety of organisms and generate insights from genome-scale, thermodynamics, and/or kinetic perspectives.
Perform integrative data analytics and interpretation of multiple omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and proteomics) in the context of metabolic network landscape to deliver actionable hypotheses and recommendations.
Develop a variety of scientific software solutions from custom algorithms to enterprise applications to facilitate, optimize, and automate data processing and analysis to support multidisciplinary R&D project teams.
Education and Experience:
PhD in bioinformatics, bioengineering, chemical engineering and/or related field, and 0-2 years related experience; may include post-doctoral experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Expertise in systems biology and/or omics data analysis, and comfortable working with large datasets in the context of large metabolic networks.
- Expertise in metabolic pathways, constraint-based modeling, building genome-scale metabolic networks from genome sequences, and analyzing intracellular flux distributions.
- Strong skills with statistical packages to discover patterns, trends, and groups within multi-dimensional biological data.
- Experience with one or more programming languages: Python, MATLAB, R Java, Perl.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to clearly and concisely convey objectives and results to a diverse audience including computational biologists, fermentation engineers, microbiologists, molecular biologists, and enzymologists.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced yet intellectually stimulating environment.

- Experience in a chemical engineering modeling, microbiology, fermentation, or metabolic engineering setting, is desired.
