Job Description:
The Role – please note this job is available in either our Craigavon (NI) or Manchester site.

Working as part of the Bioinformatics team, you will be responsible for executing existing and developing novel Next Generation Sequencing pipelines, in addition to supporting Almac Diagnostics’ capabilities in all other aspects of bioinformatics commercial services and analysis at appropriate levels of complexity.

The ability to work in a fast-paced, project orientated environment, and plan and execute objectives under tight timelines is essential.

The role represents a unique opportunity suitable for a qualified Bioinformatics Scientist with an interest in delivering first class data analysis support and solutions in a clinical setting.

Essential Criteria

  • MSc in Bioinformatics or related discipline
  • Detailed and applied knowledge of methods used to QC, process and interpret Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data from a variety of platforms (Illumina NextSeq, MiSeq etc).
  • Familiarity with standard tools (e.g. BWA, samtools, vcftools, Picard, GATK, STAR, Cufflinks) and public resources for NGS analysis
  • Experience in statistical computing languages such as R or MATLAB
  • Experience with biological data integration and visualisation
  • Experience of interacting in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to work effectively on own initiative and contribute within a team environment
Desirable Criteria:

  • MSc with 3 years’ experience, or PhD in Bioinformatics or related discipline
  • Experience in the discovery, development and validation of biomarkers from biological data
  • Experience of software development lifecycle
  • Experience of presenting methods and results at international conferences or equivalent
