Job Description:
Roche Sequencing Solutions is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow - Bioinformatics to join our team in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Roche Sequencing Solutions is an innovator in genomics focused on developing sample prep and target enrichment solutions for next-generation sequencing. Roche Sequencing Solutions technologies allow researchers to selectively target DNA sequences in the genome of interest for variant discovery and validation, human or non-human, either through pre-built gene panels or custom designed panels.

A Post Doctoral Fellow - Bioinformatics at Roche Sequencing Solutions, Madison participates in research collaborations and early product development. The focus of this collaborative opportunity is to determine how the genomic and proteomic heterogeneity of solid tumors may impact cancer patient outcomes, including response to targeted inhibitors and immunotherapy. Key deliverables include authorship of high impact scientific journal articles, generation of intellectual property, and contributing to novel product concepts in the diagnostic oncology space.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Leading bioinformatics activities for one or more collaborative research projects.
  • Acting independently in developing analytic methods, techniques, and evaluation/testing criteria for obtaining results.
  • Responsible for the timely achievement of overall project goals, within scope and budget for the project.
  • Assisting in the design of experimental plans to support project objectives.
  • Analyzing sequencing and experimental data. Developing new analysis methods.
  • Participating in feasibility research efforts to define new products, processes, or components. Contributes to potentially patentable work.
  • Ability to provide detailed information on data analysis and algorithms.
  • Preparing technical reports or summaries and delivering presentations to diverse audiences, including project teams, other departments, and collaborators.

    Required:

    • PhD in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology (or Computer, Math, or Biology related degree with relevant bioinformatics focus or experience)
    • 3+ years of experience with a scripting language such as Perl or Python and/or procedural programming language; Experience working in a Linux command line environment.
    • Wide range of knowledge of techniques in computational biology/genomics and their application with relevant experience.
    • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
    • Basic knowledge of methods in statistics.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with scientific presentation ability.
    • Capable of searching scientific literature to gain general and specific information. Keeps current on developments in the field.
    • Able to effectively prioritize work.
    • Able to finish tasks in a given timeframe and estimate task completion time for planning purposes.
    • Experience with next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis.
    • Experience in calling somatic variants (low frequency SNV, indel, CNV, etc in a mixed tumor/normal or sub-clonal sample).
    • Ability to travel up to 10% in the US and the UK.
    • Experience with submitting manuscript(s) for peer-reviewed publication.
    Preferred:
    • Experience with sequencing target enrichment panel design and/or analysis, e.g. targeted panels, amplicon panels, whole exome sequencing (WES).
    • Experience with statistical software packages such as R or S-plus.
    • Experience with a high performance computing environment.
