This is a scientist level position in bioinformatics with emphasis on data modeling and machine learning in DNA or protein sequence space. Working closely with the Antigen Design team and protein engineering scientists, the candidate will use knowledge in bioinformatics and computational model-building to improve DNA immunogen and DNA-encoded antibody design. Essential job functions and duties:
- Data analysis related to antigen and DNA-encoded antibody design
- Development of algorithms and models related to increasing gene expression and efficacy
- Communicating progress, results, and developments to internal and external audiences
- Assist in determination of key molecular genetic elements for vaccine efficacy and antibody expression, and apply gained knowledge into algorithm and model development.
- Assist in projects requiring collaborations with other research personnel within Inovio as well as collaborations with external partners.
- Collect, analyze and present data at both internal meetings with other Inovio scientists and collaborators as well as at external scientific meetings.
- Author grants, internal development reports and reports for regulatory filings from time to time as directed to support the company’s product development pipeline.
- Master’s degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or computer science
- Strong background in bioinformatics/computational science is mandatory.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Knowledge or experience in synthetic/molecular biology and vaccine development is a plus, as is familiarity with a matrix style environment.
- Expertise with Python, Perl, C/C++, Java, R, or similar languages is essential.
- Experience using or implementing any of the following techniques is required: SVM, random forest, hidden Markov models, genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, Monte Carlo, simulated annealing, or other common machine learning algorithms.
- 2-4 years’ experience. Industry experience is preferred but not essential.
