Job Description:
The Research Department of New England Biolabs invites excellent candidates to apply for the position of Research Scientist (Bioinformatics). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with bench scientist to advance early-stage research and development projects. The Research Department of New England Biolabs invites excellent candidates to apply for the position of Research Scientist (Bioinformatics). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with bench scientist to advance early-stage research and development projects. Our work aims to identify and characterize enzymes that act on nucleic acids and to develop workflows to analyze, modify, and manipulate DNA and RNA. Primary Responsibilities:
- Support research teams using state of the art computational analysis approaches applied to large datasets including nucleic acid sequence analysis, homology searches and protein analysis
- Collaborate with research teams to design and analyze biological experiments
- Contribute to biological interpretation of large datasets
- Design, build and implement computational workflows and databases for internal use
- Educate and train peers
- Advanced degree in computational biology, bioinformatics or a molecular biology related field with significant data analysis experience. Computational training with significant biological experience is also acceptable
- Experience with cluster computing
- Expert knowledge in at least one scripting language, e.g. Python, Perl
- Experience in R, Matlab or other statistical languages
- Solid background in mathematics and statistical methods
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Background in quantitative methods applied to biology
- Strong interest in molecular biology
- Experience in developing computational analysis tools for biological science research
- Accessible evidence of software development history (e.g. GitHub)
- High-throughput sequence data analysis and broad knowledge of popular bioinformatics tools
- Proficiency with the Galaxy platform
