Job Description:
Applications are invited for an exciting post within our bioinformatics team at the (CGEBM) in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. More information on CGEBM is available via the embedded link. CGEBM provides genomics support to projects across the breadth of life sciences research in Aberdeen. Genomics, and in particular next generation sequencing, is revolutionising the speed and complexity of biological analyses and plays an increasingly important role in work spanning many disciplines from ecology to translational medicine. You will work in the CGEBM to provide bioinformatics support to researchers at the University of Aberdeen using genomics in their research and to support our teaching, training and public engagement activities. You will work alongside colleagues in bioinformatics, statistics, data management and IT as well as laboratory staff to provide optimal support to our collaborators.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or be near completion) and experience in biological research would be an advantage. Strong programming skills (in a language such as Java, C, C++ or Perl), a thorough knowledge of shell scripting, and experience in genomic data analysis and statistics are required. Previous experience of next generation sequencing data analysis is essential and experience of other types of high density datasets would be advantageous.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 scale (£32,548 - £38,833 per annum), with placement according to qualifications and experience. Consideration will be given to making an appointment at Grade 5 level in the first instance (£27,285 - £30,688 per annum) for individuals in the final stages of completing their PhD.
