Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, the State University of New Jersey, seeks a Senior Scientist Research Computing to join our Central Administration High Performance Computing (HPC) team located in Newark, New Jersey. Reporting to the Director of High Performance & Research Computing (HPRC), the Senior Scientist position is structured to permit a talented individual with an extremely high degree of knowledge and accomplishment in the broad areas of computational biology, computational chemistry and bioinformatics to use such expertise in support of Rutgers' research mission. An individual in this position is expected to function at the level of a scientist working in close collaboration with the research faculty and their doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows. This position requires an Advanced degree in the life sciences or a STEM (science technology, engineering, mathematics) area with significant experience working in the life sciences. A PhD is strongly preferred. A minimum of six years’ experience in an academic or commercial research setting supporting scientific computing in the life sciences is also required. Evidence of achievement through publication and citation is preferred. Candidates must also have demonstrated expertise in the deployment of sophisticated computational tools to solve problems in molecular modeling and dynamics, genomics, drug design, homology modeling, proteomics, life sciences databases, data mining, visualization and other areas requiring advanced hardware and software. Demonstrated facility in the use of commonly used graphics environments for scientific workstations is required. Additional requirements include: in-depth knowledge and experience developing solutions in advanced Linux and Unix SMP, cluster and Grid environments; familiarity with management tools for grid and cluster environments; broad understanding of network security issues, architecture, and policy and practice in large, complex enterprises; familiarity with the concept of cyber-infrastructure and its relation to collaborative and translational research on a regional and national scale; ability to train and inspire technologists at all levels in the organization; and strong verbal and written communication skills.
