As a Bioinformatics Scientist, you will be a member of the Computational Biology Department, focused on developing applications of Illumina’s DNA sequencing technology. You will drive the development of new software tools for genomic analysis and combine these with existing software to facilitate both internal projects and external research collaborations. You will have the self-motivation and communication skills to understand the requirements of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and the technical abilities to deliver innovative and practical solutions to a variety of problems relating to the mining of knowledge from large-scale datasets. We seek demonstrated accomplishment in some or all of the following skills:
  • Demonstrated ability in the design and optimization of algorithms is essential.
  • Understanding of key algorithms in string matching and/or DNA sequence analysis is a plus.
  • Practical experience in C++ (including STL) and Perl and/or Python is expected, knowledge of C# a plus
  • Familiarity with applied statistics and machine learning techniques is important
  • Practical experience of open-source bioinformatics tools
  • Critical problem solving and data analysis
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
