Roche is the world leader in in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and tissue-based cancer diagnostics and a front runner in diabetes management. Roche Sequencing is seeking a talented and motivated scientist to lead the Bioinformatics responsibilities for the technology development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) applications for in vitro diagnostics (IVD). This position has oversight of platform specific bioinformatics development and designing (or migrating) assays and tests from an array of technologies to NGS platforms. This requires in-depth experience and agility with analyses on multiple NGS systems and other clinically relevant technologies to maintain a collaborative and productive relationship with cross-functional teams. The position will play a critical role for the development and approval of NGS-based tests.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage a team to address the Bioinformatics needs for NGS technology and assay development.
- Provide bioinformatics support in matters of equivalency testing, assay migration, verification and analytical validation. This includes providing insight, metrics and experimental design to scientists comparing results from distinct systems.
- Design and implement studies to establish and optimize NGS computational specifications across a range of applications, sample types and inputs.
- Work productively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Extensive experience with multiple NGS platforms including analysis workflows and specifications particularly sequence analysis.
- Expert knowledge of R (Bioconductor) and a scripting language such as Python.
- Previous experience with quality systems and design control.
- Previous experience working in an NGS development environment.
- PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience in academia or industry.
- Experience building and / or managing a team.
- Must be comfortable providing leadership in a competitive landscape and operating independently with incomplete information.
