Job Description:
This person will be responsibility for conducting bioinformatics analyses of global transcriptome, microbiome, and qPCR datasets to identify conserved patterns of gene expression across multiple species/exposure conditions, establishing and maintaining data accessioning and availability, communication of data and analyses with potential collaborators, and conducting initial training of graduate students in bioinformatics software usage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Conduct bioinformatics analyses of RNAseq, 16S microbiome, and qPCR data

- Analyze and interpret large datasets to identify biologically relevant response patterns.

- Write, edit and revise manuscripts resulting from the data analyses

- Train graduate students in bioinformatics pipeline analysis

- Assist PI in grants management and in the development of new proposals

- Adhere to USM policies, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in biology, bioinformatics, toxicology, environmental science, or other closely related field.
  • Experience with toxicology and/or microbiology experimental design, interpretation and analysis
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis for ecotoxicology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with bioinformatics analysis pipelines and software.
  • Familiarity with CLC Genomics, IPA, and assocaited bioinformatics software packages.
