Job Description:
Inscripta has an outstanding opportunity available for a motivated and highly accomplished data/computational scientist in our Applications Department. Successful candidates will be responsible for using novel synthetic biology design, analysis & learning tools for rapid genomic engineering of yeast and microbes. They will also be responsible for proposing new application ideas, working with external development partners, executing experimental plans with excellence, and delivering results on time.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with application scientists to help design microbial hosts libraries for high-value industrial and pharmaceutical biotechnology applications
  • Propose and create novel design methods to efficiently survey/sample genomic sequence space
  • Analyze complex genotypes & phenotypes to a) elucidate system behavior, b) establish sequence-function relationships and guide library designs for strain engineering & optimization, c) extract long term patterns & relationships to aid in future design & learning
  • Provide consulting services to customers and work closely with them to identify & codify project goals, strategies, and execution plans to best leverage Inscripta's technology platform
  • Work closely with software and automation engineers to develop a fully automated suite of tools for genome engineering based on internal and external customer needs & experiences
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science, mathematics, or other quantitative discipline
  • Excellent track-record of publications and/or other scientific achievements
  • Expertise in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, and advanced genome editing tools and methodologies
  • Strong background in probability, statistics, computational biology/bioinformatics, machine learning, and other forms biological data science
  • Strong coding skills in one or of the following: R, Python, Perl, Java, C/C++, MATLAB
  • Knowledge of machine learning concepts and frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow)
  • Demonstrated independent thought and judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates with direct experience in protein and/or genome engineering using state of the art design-build-test-learn strategies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Energetic and motivated self-starter
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication, and presentation skills
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills to convey statistical and mathematical concepts to non-statisticians

Location: The primary job location can be in Boulder, Colorado or Pleasanton, CA and will require some travel as needed. The nature of role is likely to change and expand in unpredictable ways as Inscripta grows. Managers will be expected to bring creativity, perseverance and energy to identifying and executing new opportunities.
