Job Description:
We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelor/Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, System Biology, Computer Science, Biological Science or a related major for an internship during the summer of 2018. This internship opportunity is with the Translational Medicine department.

The objective of this internship is to compile the mutation data from TCGA or other clinical trial data, extract the mutational signature and correlate it with clinical outcomes. The successful intern will:

  • Compile mutation datasets using TCGA and move on to the tumor only data sets using internal/published algorithms
  • est the published algorithms for mutational signature extraction and use relevant methods to improve the signal/noise ratio
  • Explore the correlation between any signature with clinical outcome available in the data sets, interpret the results and develop visualization for potential poster presentation
  • Create web-based app using Shiny/Dash for easy data exploration
Core Responsibilities:

The primary duty is to understand the biological meaning of mutational processes in DNA through literature reading, conduct programming on DNA mutation data using computer languages such as R, Python.

Position Requirements:

  • Proficiency in R/Python and Statistics
  • Basic knowledge of cancer biology/molecular biology
  • Undergraduate Junior, Seniors and Master’s level candidates
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0+
