Job Description:
Position Title:   Research Scientist II Department:    Human and Molecular Genetics Center Division:           Bioinformatics Center Location:          Health Research Center Workweek:       8am-5pm SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS Reports to:  Mary Shimoyama, PhD Directly Supervises: various multi-disciplinary project teams POSITION PURPOSE Senior non-faculty researcher using medical informatics, bioinformatics, data analysis and ontology development and implementation techniques to conduct research projects using clinical and biological data. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  •  Plan and complete complex research procedures using bioinformatics, data analysis and ontology development techniques
  •  Supervise multi-disciplinary research teams and oversee daily operations of projects.
  • Oversee organization, synthesis and analysis of findings.
  •  Review research methodologies; plan, develop and compose protocols for implementation, assessment, testing, cost effectiveness, and quality.
  •  Oversee assignments to researchers, curators, bioinformaticians, data analysts, and other members of the research team including staff members, who generate and integrate data and develop software applications for data analysis and presentation.
  •  Prepare scientific reports, outcome findings and scientific manuscripts.  Assist in outcome interpretation and composition of the results sections of manuscripts and reports.
  •  Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate research procedures.
  •  Train students, residents and post-doctoral fellows in specific bioinformatics, data analysis and ontology research protocols; develop training materials.
OTHER DUTIES Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Position Qualifications Education: PhD in a scientific, medical or informatics field, MD or clinical certification a plus Experience: 3 years experience required, experience with clinical data, ontologies and vocabularies a plus Certifications/Licenses: None KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Must have strong background in informatics techniques and experience with standardizing and analyzing data from the electronic medical records is a plus. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in biomedical informatics, statistical analysis of clinical data, ontology development and implementation. Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail required. Knowledge of advanced scientific approaches and methodologies. Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects.
