The Agenus computational biology group is seeking a highly talented and motivated data analyst to contribute to the team’s efforts in learning from large-scale datasets to facilitate the characterizing of immunotherapeutic drug candidates and biomarkers. The successful candidate will use his/her coding and scripting skills for improving existing and creating novel bioinformatics pipelines for the processing, analysis, and interpretation of next generation sequencing and functional genomics datasets. He/she will develop and maintain databases and web interfaces and contribute to the team’s efforts for data storage and curation from internal and external sources.

- Informatics operations and data analysis:
- Build robust informatics pipelines for analyzing sequencing data and help establishing the computational infrastructure required
- Use existing software for diverse tasks including: sequence alignment, transcriptome analysis, variant calling, inter-sample comparison, algorithm evaluation, data management, and data retrieval
- Incorporate software into specialized analysis workflows
- In collaboration with drug discovery project teams develop data analysis plans and use web-based bioinformatics tools as well as public and proprietary databases to facilitate interpretation of data
- Use best practices to document your work and the flow of samples and information for projects Generate reports and visualizations for deliverables, presentations, and publications
- Project management and communication:
- Review, analyze, and evaluate systems and user needs, also in the contexts of existing tools and applicability
- Participates in various aspects of the software development life cycle: identification of key requirements, design, code generation, testing, implementation, and documentation
- Appropriately and effectively communicate project statuses and utilize project and time management skills to complete projects within specified timelines
- Strong experience using at least on scripting programming language (Python/Perl)
- Experience with R is desired
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL and/or Oracle) and client-server concepts
- Experience working with Linux and Windows operating systems
- Knowledge of parallel computing in local and cloud environments (preferably AWS)
- Experience with next generation sequencing platforms, data formats, and analysis pipelines is preferred
- Willingness to closely collaborate with bench scientist and understand the biological concepts behind the scientific questions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
