Job Description:
Group Description: A small team of Computational Biologists and wider community of software engineers dedicated to creating, maintaining and improving the analysis pipelines for managing and preparing high through - put sequencing (and other genomic) data for analysis. An integral part of the Genomics Platform at theBroad Institute, this informatics team is dedicated to discovering and applying the best algorithms to the analysis of sequencing data, empowering researchers in transforming medicine and human health. Job Description:Will conceive and develop algorithms and analysis approaches for solving key challenges for emerging DNA sequencing technologies, instantiate these ideas in software tools that will eventually be applied to flagship projects like the 1000 Genomes Project, with revolutionary implications in human medical genetics. Will apply computational techniques to design and implement analysis tools to solve complex computational and mathematical problems. Will work collaboratively with other computer scientists on computational research in a fast-paced environment. Must enable the research of other program scientists through excellent communication, teamwork, and a focus on creating usable and accessible research software tools. Must be capable of working in an interactive team environment while conducting self-directed research within broader goals set by group. NO PRIOR BIOLOGICAL BACKGROUND REQUIRED, just an enthusiasm to learn on the job. Key Responsibilities:Devise new algorithms and approaches to data analysis. Rapidly prototype these ideas, validating their value on novel data sets. Be involved in the effort to implement and optimize successful algorithms in the pipeline and for use by the broader community. Gather information from, and present results to a broad range of non-computational staff. Prepare written reports and presentations for internal use and publication. â? PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Bioinformatics or a related field is required. â? Excellent oral and written English communication skillsâ?
