Overview

The mission of the Center for Cancer Genome Discovery (CCGD) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is to facilitate genome discoveries in a many human cancer types by basic and translational research. The CCGD has established technology platforms to assist researchers in both genome-wide and gene-focused efforts such as next-generation sequencing, genotyping, somatic mutation detection and copy number analysis. We strive to be at the cutting-edge of cancer characterization, utilizing novel technologies and adapting existing technologies for the advancement of cancer research. Technologies are selected and developed with a view to discovery-oriented ventures, as well as translational medicine and clinical relevance.

Role and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a highly motivated Web Developer to join our bioinformatics team for developing and maintaining bioinformatics capabilities for genome research in Cancer.

More specifically, the responsibility of this position includes:

- Maintenance of existing internal and external websites using the Perl-Catalyst framework
- Lead the development of new internal web applications for the review and reporting of next-generation sequencing results using the Apache-Struts framework.
- Work with computational biologists and scientists to automate creation of graphs and reports
- Assist in the development and maintenance of our lab information management system (LIMS)

Requirements

· MS in bioinformatics, computer science and/or the life sciences preferred. BA/BS and 1-3 years relevant experience required.
· Experience with either Catalyst or Apache Struts 2.
· Must have developed or maintained transactional database systems (LIMS, ERP, MES, or CRM).
· Expertise summarizing, displaying, and reporting complex data stored in a MySQL database.
· Demonstrated experience in Java and Perl (object-oriented) in a UNIX/Linux environment.
· Prior experience with automated graphing/charting utilities preferred (R, JFreeChart, JasperReports, or similar).
· Previous experience in molecular biology, cancer genomics, or a related field is strongly preferred.
· Excellent communication and effective problem-solving skills; and ability to interact with multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, prioritize and manage a variety of tasks, and shift priorities rapidly.

Schedule

Full time, 40 hours per week
