Responsibilities As a Research Computational Biologist at the GS-0401-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
- Defines and conducts courses of investigation to achieve specified research objectives and generates and presents authoritative research results that increase scientific understanding of the fundamental principles and scientific applications associated with genomics and metagenomics.
- Develops detailed plan of attack, performs necessary literature searches, and carries out required experimentation.
- Works with senior Bioinformatics Scientist (SBS) and Principle Investigator (PI) in developing an independent line of research in bioinformatics, particularly in genomics and metagenomics.
- Serves as a researcher and project team member, responsible for planning, conducting, and presenting complex courses of investigation in support of assigned DoD programs.

- Expert knowledge in applying principles, theories, and concepts specialized knowledge in Computer Science, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology or related field;
- Experience developing an independent line of research in bioinformatics, particularly in genomics and metagenomics, and developing algorithms for processing, analyzing, and visualizing genomic information or other biological information;
- Expert knowledge of and the ability to manage the program in order to advance beyond current constraints and the ability to effectively communicate technical issues and scientific technical information in briefings.
